Tidy Spaces Holiday Wellness Tips
For nearly everyone in the world, 2020 has been a crazy year, so how do we maintain a festive holiday season? In past years stress and feeling overwhelmed were normal. This year it has tripled with all the COVID guidelines. So, what do you do to make this year just as jolly as years past?
Here are our tips to make Holiday 2020 stress free:
- Prioritize me time
It is imperative that you pay special attention to your self-care during this time. Whether it is indulging in your favorite treat, taking a relaxing bath or even singing/listening to your favorite Christmas carol. You do you. Self-care is a huge part of being able to give to others.
- Practice self-control when it comes to food
We all love those brightly decorated Christmas cakes and cookies. However, you cannot eat them all. Pay attention to portion size. Share the cookie or cupcake with a family member or friend, give some to your neighbors or even bring some to the local hospital and let those health care workers how much you appreciate them. Some treats also freeze well so you can revisit them later in 2021 when you are craving something sweet.
- Get plenty of sleep
Sleep deprivation increases stress and anxiety. To avoid that make sure you are sticking to a bedtime routine. Whether it is going to bed the same time every night or wearing your favorite pajamas, stick to a plan. Just make sure you get your ZZZZZ’s. Since you’ve already spent so much time in pajamas during quarantine, splurge and buy some new holiday ones!!
- Enjoy quality time with loved ones
With platforms like Zoom and Google Hangouts, video calls are a great way to connect and celebrate with everyone. Setting up a video call where you can virtually enjoy a meal together, or plan to open presents will allow you for quality time without the stress of traveling or getting sick. Do what you can, even watch a movie or read a favorite holiday story together via video or the phone. Connecting brings love and joy for everyone.
- Stay active and find ways to occupy time
If you already have a workout routine, then stick to it. Figure out ways to incorporate it before and after festivities. If able to get outside and go for a walk, run or play with the kids then DO IT! If weather permits you from getting outdoors then play games, like twister or charades or even try out a dance video on tik tok to make you get up and move around. Exercise and movement increase endorphins which leads to being happy.
- Plan ahead to avoid last minute stress
There is simply nothing better than buying that perfect present for your loved ones. To avoid last minute gift shopping and household needs, be like Santa, make a list and check it twice. Plan ahead of where you want to go and even check websites to find out when is the best time to shop. Make use of online shopping. We all have become best friends with our Amazon delivery person, (share your treats with them). For those that you may not know what to get them check out tidyspaces.com and pick up a gift card or two. There is no better gift than giving the gift of organizing. They make great stocking stuffer. Let us be your elves this year.
- Stick to your budget
Finances may be tight, putting a damper on affording elaborate gifts for each family member or friend. In order to budget your money and shop smart this holiday season, create a realistic spending amount for each person on your list. Setting spending limits for presents also eases nerves around shopping for your family and friends. This year instead of buying gifts for everyone maybe draw names out of a hat and each person just buys for one person. Keep it a secret, this way when you send or receive your gift you will be extra surprised.
