Appreciating Women All Month Long!
Did you know that Tidy Spaces is a women owned and run business? Yes, five capable and intelligent women are the foundation of our amazing company! That’s why we are celebrating National Women’s History Month—to honor important female figures that created the opportunity for us to become businesswomen ourselves. Women’s History Month started in 1978 as a weeklong celebration of important women in history. It quickly caught on across the U.S. in the coming years, leading the recognition week to grow to the month we celebrate today! While March is a great time to celebrate women in history, we should appreciate, support, and celebrate women all year long. The Tidy Spaces team is here to share some different ways to do just that! Keep reading for more!
- Support women owned and run businesses!
Visiting stores or restaurants owned by women, as well as promoting them with a simple social media tag or Yelp review goes a long way! Even in 2021, women business owners still face many barriers in succeeding, the same way women did thirty years ago.
- Read literature, watch TV shows, and movies written by women!
Here is a great list of female written literature from The Oprah Magazine and a great list of Netflix shows by and about women! Helping female-written work gain more traction is an extremely useful way to help the writers gain popularity as well as the credit deserved for their work.
- Make sure your feminism is intersectional!
That means you are advocating for all women, regardless of race, religion, socioeconomic status, sexuality, and body ability. Real feminism is across the board, so support your sisters no matter what!
- Create a safe space for women
Whether it’s a book club, a Facebook group, or happy hour, it’s important for women to have somewhere where they feel heard. If you are not a part of a community like this, create one! Invite your female friends, family, and colleagues to join. The group can focus on anything, from topics like female empowerment in the workplace to how to teach young daughters about feminism! All of these conversations are important and necessary, and creating a space to hold them is the first step.
- Give women the chance to lead
Whether it’s in a grade school classroom or a corporate office, equality and representation in leadership is vital. Particularly in children, young girls need to learn that they are indeed capable of leading and a valuable asset to whatever space they are in, so present them with opportunities to lead so they can learn these valuable lesson from an early age.
- Learn about local legislation
There are constantly bills and laws being passed on a local and national level, and many of them directly impact the lives of women. Be sure to follow legislation online and stay updated on how you can support bills that directly benefit women in your community.
- Support organizations that help women
There are many organizations that support female empowerment, equality, and societal change, such as UN Women, the Association for Women’s Rights in Development (AWID), and many more. Here is a list of 25 organizations you can donate to and follow to learn more about fighting for gender equality!
Women’s History Month is a great time to access resources, learn and teach women’s history, and support women! Join the Tidy Spaces team in continuing to learn about women’s history and rights. Female empowerment and equality is the way forward, so be sure to support women in any way you can all month long! Happy Women’s Month!
